To select a President based on your political position could work for some people, considering that each ‘side’ typically follows a similar pattern throughout their party’s common beliefs and goals. But is this always the best course of decision? Must it always be red vs blue, or Republican vs Democrat? Generally speaking, the 3rd party that sometimes comes to the table, the Libertarians, offers a middle ground candidate, but due to the majority parties being red or blue, they do not receive enough votes therefore it appears as though those votes have been wasted.
So who do we vote for? I would like to present to you some Biblical insights as to what a Ruler or King was to look and act like, and from there perhaps you will gain a bit of Godly insight that will perhaps direct your decision-making process. I will not speak about the qualities of the individuals who we currently have to select between, nor mention their age, history of legal issues, nor even point out my opinion. You can compare these things to each candidate, and hopefully make a wiser choice for not just your family, but for our country as a whole, whether you are a Christ follower or not.
The Bible speaks of what the ideal Ruler/King should be like: though this list is believed to speak of the Messiah, one can also hope for these same qualities in our Presidential Leader:
– One who rules and serves all of the people well.
– He ultimately cares for the poor, the weak, and the oppressed children.
– With him, justice always prevails: his judgments are done in righteousness, especially with the poor.
– He defends the cause of the poor, gives deliverance and relief to the children of needy.
– He stops the oppressors of the needy and poor – those who would cheat them or steal from them, hold them back or prevent them from doing well.
– His actions are honorable, done in piety, and be a blessing as rain is to the earth.
– May ALL under his dominion know peace.
– Other countries will respect his leadership and recognize God’s work through him as they also reap the benefits.
– Have pity on the weak and save their lives, not wanting any blood shed.
– Rescue those from violence and oppression as he values life (unborn, the elderly, those who are homeless, etc.)
– Works with all his heart for us as though for the Lord.
– As a result of his good leadership, his name will be remembered and honored.
– As a result of his good leadership, we the people know prosperity: of food, of growing family, and in our individual faith.
– He recognizes that all these things are due to God’s wondrous blessings.
– Also, he will show these characteristics (fruits of the Spirit): is always truthful, acts in love, filled with joy, has peace, shows patience, displays kindness, goodness, and gentleness, lives out faithfulness (to spouse, etc), has self control, does not provoke one another, sows good seed, is peaceful, merciful, and gracious.
– He remembers his Creator and fears God.
These are NOT the qualities we should want in our President:
– One who is sexually immoral, is an idolator, tells us lies, uses sorcery, has enmity, uses this power for himself, loves strife, shows jealousy, has fits of anger, continues rivalries, causes dissension, causes divisions, is envious, is a drunkard, provokes others, is ungodly, etc.
“When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.”
Proverbs 29:2
Choose who best represents God’s way based on the truth; not based on a false, skewed, opinionated, one-sided narrative.
Do your own research. Find the truth. Vote.
Just know that no matter who you vote for, whomever does win as President is so because GOD has declared it to be, for reasons we may not fully understand nor like. It is closing in on the end of times, so things will continue to change dramatically; environmentally and within humanity.
Our President will be a key player in how our country and this world moves forward in history.
“Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,…”
Titus 3:1
Food for thought: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams.
Fun facts: Presidents: 1. Abraham Lincoln was the tallest president: 6′ 4″. 2. James Madison was the shortest president: 5′ 4″, and weighed slightly more than 100 lbs. 3. Teddy Roosevelt was the first president to ride in a car while in office. 4. Martin Van Burn was the first president to be born an American. All previous ones were British. 5. The shortest time of someone being president was William Henry Harrison: 32 days. 6. Benjamin Harrison was the first to hire a female staffer. 7. The “S” in Harry S. Truman (and Ulysses S. Grant) didn’t stand for anything.

***Scripture used for list of ‘ideal Ruler/King’: Psalm 72***
“Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son!
May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice!
Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness!
May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor!
May they fear you while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations!
May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth!
In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more!
May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth!
May desert tribes bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust!
May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands render him tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts!
May all kings fall down before him, all nations serve him!
For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper.
He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy.
From oppression and violence he redeems their life, and precious is their blood in his sight.
Long may he live; may gold of Sheba be given to him!
May prayer be made for him continually, and blessings invoked for him all the day!
May there be abundance of grain in the land; on the tops of the mountains may it wave; may its fruit be like Lebanon; and may people blossom in the cities like the grass of the field!
May his name endure forever, his fame continue as long as the sun!
May people be blessed in him, all nations call him blessed!
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things.
Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory!
Amen and Amen!”
Good and timely insight!
