Do you know that without the Spirit, there would be no Christmas to celebrate? It was the Holy Spirit of God – the power of the Most High – that came upon Mary and filled her, and she conceived Jesus. He was proclaimed by the angel Gabriel to be “Holy – the Son of God”.
“And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy – the Son of God.”
Luke 1:35
Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit:
“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness…”
Luke 4:1
We read in the New Testament of many apostles that were filled with the Spirit, but this was not for them alone. We have this gift available to us as well this Christmas! How can we know if God’s Holy Spirit is living in us? By living as our Lord did, and loving as our Lord does:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…”
Galatians 5:22-23a
May the Spirit of Christmas fill your hearts and lives all year ’round.
Food for thought: One of the ways we show our Christmas spirit is by putting up Christmas lights. This actually symbolizes hope and light during the longer darker days of winter. It also acts as an invitation to others to find comfort and rest in our home. May our home and life shed the light of Jesus Christ this season.
Fun fact: Age – when you buy an early Christmas gift and stash it, then can’t even remember what it is or where it is!!! oops..
